Computer Aided Design (CAD)

ME 3501 // Completed November 2019

SUMMARY

This Computer Aided Design (CAD) course is a detailed study of computer aided design tools. An emphasis is on solid modeling and finite element analysis.

Using the tools and experience gained during the course a final project was completed. This was a group project and we choose to do a redesign of the Mars Opportunity Rover due to our shared interest of Aerospace. We were tasked with recreating the solid model of the rover and with additional changes based on engineering principles.

My principle change was an addition of a solar panel fan as a commonly reported problem of the rover was that the fine Martian dust would cover the panels and interfere with the energy capture. Using the Flow Simulation software in SolidWorks, I created a fan design that would maximize the flow of air along the solar panel assembly.
